A short time ago Dave & Busters locations landed a deal to get the new Pac-Man Battle Royale Deluxe edition of the game. We covered that along with the Pac-Man Power Girls showing up for the event launch. But there has been some confusion about the availability of the cabinet as the initial press release sent out by D&B has a line that makes it sound as though the game is available only at their locations.
Now when it came to launching the game, it was a D&B exclusive. As Namco has informed us however the game is exclusive for Dave & Busters during December but come next month in January 2012, other locations can get their hands on it as well. So if you’ve been hoping to get the super-sized version of PMBR, you will be able to do so soon.
UPDATE: Eric W. in the comments tells us that Power Play in Kansas City, MO already has a deluxe model so it appears the exclusivity of this was confined to the launch event. In any case, the launch is something that was a great way to get the word out about the game, and I imagine we will see more events like this in the future or at least I certainly hope so. It seems like a great way to get the word out there if you ask me.
Still wrong.
PowerPlay got theirs installed a week ago or more in the Kansas City metro.
D&B is pretty big, but Namco would be doing themselves a disservice to go exclusive with anyone. Namco’s own stores and route locations far exceed D&Bs store count. Not to mention all the overseas sales potential.
Exclusive my ___
I wonder if this is just Namco admitting that they got caught claiming like the TouchFX they had an exclusive with D&B only for all the buyers to complain and threaten to pull their orders! This looks really stupid on Namco’s side. Bet the Japanese wont be happy.
The original press release was sent out by D&B. NAMCO is just correcting the press release.
Don’t like this setup of PMBR. Screen is too far away, and the whole setup is too elaborate for Pac Man. I prefer the original version. Still, ALL versions of the game are way too expensive for a Pac Man game in 2012.
Like I said previously, if Namco makes a Ms. Pac Man BR with Super Pac Man, Baby Pac, Jr. Pac, etc. then THAT would be worth the money 🙂
@Neil, think I may already have said this but Ms. PacMan franchise is a tricky one – Namco did not originally create the game and shared ownership for a period in loo of a legal battle. The idea of a Ms. PacMan BR system sounds fun (pick your sex) but there would be issues with a ‘Multi’ game system at this stage.
