It seems that since Ultrapin came around, pinball machines with digital displays is starting to gain a foothold in the industry. I don’t believe that they will ever take the place of a real table but it’s a nice idea that allows for flexibility in changing the playfield design if needed. The latest table to do this is the new Spongbob Squarepants Soccer Shot Pinball table by 21st Century Entertainment and Gottlieb. Now I must have forgot something as I don’t recall Gottlieb doing much with pinball anymore but it looks like they are now, designing the table layout for this game. The machine itself looks just like a traditional pin, but uses a large LCD flat panel monitor for the playfield. BMI Gaming lists this for release next month in January with a decent price of $4475.
