So I picked this up on release a few weeks ago. I’d been waiting for the PC release because I have an X-Arcade stick and was looking forward to having the “arcade experience” at home. Much to my dismay, it appears SF4 only supports keyboard and 360 controllers. I can assign keyboard buttons to the arcade stick for one player, but not for the other.
Apparently they want to make recreating the arcade set up at home harder than it should be. In a way I can see why, otherwise it will be quite easy to take a high end PC and build your own cabinet. However this is not want I’m going too. So Capcom, please release a patch and support non 360 arcade sticks, please? Especially my X-Arcade stick!
This game works fine with a USB Saturn pad and a Hori Stick (via Wii Remote/Glovepie), even if configuring it takes a bit of trial and error. (They assume everyone is using a 360 pad, but you just have to go through and experiment until you match up the buttons on whatever input device you have at hand.)
Had the same issue. There are two ways to solve it:
Option #1: You can use the PPJoy driver to create two virtual controllers, and PPJoyKey to read keyboard input from the X-Arcade to the virtual controllers. Configure SFIV to use the virtual gamepads. It takes some effort to set up, but it works like a charm. (I also use this same setup to play the first “Virtua Tennis”)
Option #2: Purchase a console adapter for the X-Arcade (for example, the playstation adapter), then use a playstation-to-usb adapter to connect to the PC. Your X-Arcade will then function as two distinct game controllers rather than a keyboard.

wow, the only reason I got the game was to create a cabinet for it…I really hope there is a working alternative.

PPjoy works great (as above posts expressed). I have it running on two of my cabinets I built for SF4 and the custom joystiq are working like a charm. I was able to design everything so from push button cab boot to auto shutdown no keyboard requried.. Nice to have SF4 the way it was ment to be played (arcade style on 2 24 in LCD widescreens in high rez.
Thanks for all the great tips. Never been much of a computer wiz when it comes to hardware and it just looked to me that it didn’t work.
Joy2Key should be alternative. More painless.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Joy2Key do the opposite – convert joystick input into keystrokes?
What we need is for the X-Arcade (which already acts as a keyboard) to act as two separtate game controllers for SFIV, because SFIV only supports one keyboard player at a time.
i THINK i remember seeing a key2joy or something of that sort , which emulates keyboard into joypad buttons…
The only results I can find for “Key2Joy” on google are people who are mistaking that for Joy2Key.
Joy2Key is great if you want to use a game controller to play PC games that normally can only be played with the keyboard.
But in this case, we need the other way around, because SFIV’s keyboard support is too limited.
To the best of my knowledge, the only way to turn keyboard input into game controller input is with a combination of the PPJoy virtual joystick driver and the accompanying PPJoyKey utility to map key presses to the virtual joystick’s axes and buttons.
Here is the answer to all of your xArcade sf4 problems. on a side note i had to customize the controls on the sticks a bit as it was reading the p1 stick as move and punches. Once it is all set up, you can alt-f4 in to and out of the game while your making changes to the controls to test them.
