Metallica – the pinball machine

Shaggy October 28, 2009 1

We’re always excited to hear news about new games coming out in the pinball world, even if they are extremely limited editions (i.e. only 1) of the game. In the case of this particular machine, I can imagine that a lot of people will be wanting to grab this or ask Stern to license the idea. Here is the Metallica pinball machine, designed by Wade Krause and Tanio Klyce. The game features a similar design to the popular classic pin Earthshaker, while providing some elements (and of course artwork) of it’s own to the mix. One thing it doesn’t have is the dot matrix display, it instead uses the older digital scoreboards but it does feature CD quality sound for the many different Metallica songs the game plays and lead singer James Hetfield, who commissioned the game to be produced, recorded some voice overs just for this game. It also features a cool plunger that lights-up (I’d love to see these on some new Stern games) Where Metallica is a huge band I could imagine that a lot of fans would want to get their hands on this game but good luck since it’s one of a kind. Here is a video of the game in action at the recent Pacific Pinball Expo. More details on how this game came about can be found here via Ars Technica.
