One thing I would use a time machine for right now, if they existed, would be to go a short ways down the road to get all of these iCade clones out of the way in one post as I’m sure every company with any arcade history to speak of is currently working on one. We saw the lame attempt by Atari the other day to cash in on ThinkGeek’s original iCade craze and here’s a better angle at it by Taito with the iNVADERCADE. At least this looks somewhat like an arcade machine, as opposed to the Atari Arcade Duo but to go full authentic like an original SI machine, they would need to make a mini-cabinet with an angled, half-silvered mirror and appropriate artwork behind that. Not going to happen anytime soon of course.
Here’s a video of the iNVADERCADE. Taito Japan has a page setup for it as well here.
I’m straining mightily to recall what an actual SI machine looked like. I can remember Asteroids, Defender, and countless other arcade relics w/ stunning clarity but, for w/e reason, SI escapes me…maybe because I had more fun w/ it on 2600 than arcade.
