We first heard about this game at the beginning of this year and now finally we have a look at it in motion. Developed by NG:DEV TEAM who are based in Germany, this is a departure from some of their previous work which were shmups. Instead, this is a “Euro-style platformer” in the vein of games like Turrican, Shadow of the Beast, etc. (although it’s much more to the side of Turrican). We haven’t seen a new game in this vein for arcades in ages, after 3D gaming massacred the 2D platformer genre. According to the description, Gun Lord “…features 9 stages of exciting 2D game play with over 45 unique enemy types. Blast yourself through giant landscapes, explore caverns and reveal all secrets!!” Watch the trailer below, it’s slated for an MVS release in December 2011 for 419EUR (special pre-order price of 399EUR until next Monday) with the Dreamcast and AES versions coming sometime in 2012. Personally it fits right into my tastes as I grew up enjoying a number of 2D platformer games and it has a gratuitous amount of explosions going on along with some expansive levels so I’m sure it will attract some attention in an arcade.

Oh look, Turrican made it to the NeoGeo.
[ironic mode]It’s a joke or a metroid hack ?[/ironic mode]
I really don’t care if it’s an unabashed Turrican rip-off–the more Turrican, the better, especially these days.
