Through most of the summer new arcade game news has really just focused on new stuff being shown off in Japan where it’s standard to reveal games months before they are released (in conjunction with location tests for the game). This story is another example of that but for those of us out West our patience will be rewarded this week as the AAMA Distributor Gala kicks off starting tomorrow and runs through Thursday with some new products in store. So just hang tight.
Anyways, news came out today that location testing begins today in Japan for the newest version of the 2D/3D fighter Blazblue, called ChronoPhantasma. A trailer for the continuation of this series is found below, showing off some of the character additions. The game is likely destined to be released through Taito’s NESiCAxLIVE download service but this test is an offline one.
There is a very slight chance this could get an overseas release in English as a kit. The first BlazBlue was (I was actually looking at getting one for my arcade at the time but lacked the funds) and Taito offered BlazBlue Continuum Shift II as an offline kit purchase back in May 2011 although I do not know if that was a successful release or not. At the end of the day it depends on operator interest, which is shaky with arcade fighters. BlazBlue does not have the name recognition of many other fighting franchises, at least outside of Asia. But at the very least this means that the kits when available are much more affordable than what the big names go for.
