At IAAPA 2013, Sega had a couple of games at their booth which were a surprise – two racing games that went by the names of Storm Racer G and Storm Rider. Developed by Chinese outfit Wahlap, Sega Amusements is taking charge of getting these games into distribution for the Western hemisphere and Europe. They were at the UK-based EAG trade Show in January as well but I have received word that both of these arcade exclusive titles are “now shipping everywhere.”

Storm Racer G, as previously mentioned on the blog here, is a sequel to the Ridge Racer-esque Storm Racer which was released back in 2011. Here is a list of some of the game features, via Sega:
Linkable up to 8 players
42″ LCD screen
High sense of speed
Unique throttle for boost
Auto / Manual drift mode for Beginners / Experts
12 tracks, 6 of which have to be unlocked
14 cars, 7 of which have to be unlocked
Also thanks to Sega, here is some direct footage of the game in action. In the video it indicates that there is a camera for an avatar feature but that isn’t listed in the features so I will have to double check on that:
Storm Rider features motorbike racing with 11 tracks that are situated in 3 areas: a Harbor, Forest and Old Flight Facility. As you can see in the pics below, it also throws in some dirt bike racing into the mix, although I am not sure if the physics change appropriately or not. The feature list at Sega is similar to SRG above, with a few differences:
Linkable up to 4 players
42″ LCD screen
High sense of speed
Unlimited boost system
11 tracks, 6 of which have to be unlocked
10 bikes, 5 of which have to be unlocked
UPDATE: I have received a video of Storm Rider which I have put up on Youtube.
Here is the cabinet:
FINALLY!! I’ve been waiting to play these china games in the US market, god bless you SEGA! I know I’m a big fan of Ridge Racer and I will feel right at home with Storm Racer G. RIDDDGE RACER!!
