While there is no indication at the moment that Japanese developer ByKing plans on giving their upcoming arcade title Magician’s Dead a Western release, the concept behind this original game is intriguing. They aren’t resorting to a license to grab attention and they are making good use of gesture recognition technology to provide something different as far as control goes. There is a good chance that we end up seeing a few imports to the West although a proper English test would be quite nice to see how audiences here would take to it. Oddities like Half Life 2 Survivor and Left 4 Dead Arcade have landed over here so perhaps this one would have what it takes to garner wider interest. We’ll never know for sure unless it’s tried 😉
Regardless, if you are interested in learning about how this unique magic/spellcasting team battle game works, you don’t need to understand Japanese to get something out of this new video below. It shows the simple hand gestures needed to cast spells along with variations in how different magicians operate. Some are tailored towards offesive attacks while others lean on defensive measures which always helps a team when properly used. Likely it would need something a bit more sturdy on the ‘wii nunchuck’ movement controller for Western use:
What do you think of this? Good potential or not interested?
yea id be interested if it did come to the uk!?
Same here in the US. There’s a ton of recent titles I still haven’t had the chance to play and I’m kinda upset that this will end up being one of them.
I’m thinking they should drop wii controller for flight stick on the console deck.
This game looks so cool, I’d love to give this a shot. It’s clearly something that can’t be done at home and while it might be argued you have stuff like the Kinect for Xbox you really need this sort of setup to fully play this fun looking unique game. It almost reminds me of beyonette. If the game gives a good tutorial and also maybe some smartphone function that links to the game making it easier on amature gamers then this will succeed. It reminds me when they had leaflets for people new to sega’s Derby owners club and when there were staff there to explain the game. I really do hope it comes out internationally.
