Alternate Headline: Capcom finally comes to their senses. The biggest issue I have had with SFIV and SSFIV arcade editions has been Capcom’s way of handling the release. Instead of creating a couple of different editions (like a standard or deluxe), they have adamantly stuck with a setup where the operator had to buy two cabinets or two kits (which include the game board, software, artwork ,etc) to put into two cabs. There was no 2 players per one cabinet solution (well, officially as some hacked versions of the game have been seen in certain places) which was a big reason why availability of the game has been limited. With a usual price around $10k per unit for a full cab or $6k per kit and you had to buy two, that made it rather difficult for many venues to warrant the purchase.
So this news about the creation of a “Versus Kit” by Capcom for SSFIV is very welcome to hear, even though we’re finding out about a couple of weeks late. The Versus Kits will allow for 2 players running off of one Taito Type X2 board. No price has been revealed about the kit yet so we will have to wait and see what kind of savings this kit will bring but if it’s low enough then I imagine that it will be a bit easier to find this game out in the wild. Stay tuned for more as we will keep on eye out for when these are made available.
