Taito Corporation today announced the immediate release of the most amazing project ever undertaken in the arcade industry: DARIUS BURST ANOTHER CHRONICLE 48! Allowing for up to 48 players to play at the same time and providing by far the most insane monitor configuration mankind has ever developed at a 384:9 aspect ratio, it’s one game an operator who manages to somehow have enough space to fit one into their facility could rest assured that there is absolutely nothing like this in the entire universe. With the cabinet measuring 19.29 meters across (about 64 feet), it only takes 1 full minute to fly your ship from one end of the screen to another and sometimes you might need to do just that as you and your 47 friends take on the new boss made just for this version of the game, the Unagi Boss (pictured to the right)! This boss uses a special armor that disables regular player bullets so the only way to perhaps defeat him is by getting a full 48-player linked Burst. Like it’s much smaller cousin, an English and Chinese version of the game will be made available on May 1st 2011, the English version including a special “NITRO” pedal to make it palatable to Western audiences; the Chinese version has reportedly been cloned already by Shiuxiang Technologies who will introduce the variation of 3D to the game. Stay tuned for more news on this amazing game!

UPDATE: Just for future reference, yes this was an April Fools joke brought to you by Taito.

I don’t know. People think the X-Men arcade game is good because of its wide screen, so this is logically the greatest video game ever conceived. Next April: 100 screens, each cabinet powered by its own generator!
