The Sega “R&D SpyCam” is back with a new image which you see from the featured post image is a schematic of some kind of device for the game. For those interested in previous pictures of what this camera has shown of other parts of the upcoming mystery arcade game, go here. For the latest one, here is the full image below, along with some of my thoughts beneath that:
To me this looks like a controller – from the shape of the shell above and mechanics below (for measuring movement), some kind of pointing device perhaps like a mouse but industrial grade. That is the closest thing I could see. Now it could be some kind of new swivel base for a mounted device like a light-gun too but again, the shape above is something like a mouse.
What that can mean if true is a first person game of some kind. Sega has produced that in the past – Outriggers (although that used a trackball) and currently there is Border Break in Japan. As with previous revelations this included a new letter which for the project so far spells out “SIDEA”. Not sure how many more letters there will be but I think it is clear at this point that it’s a video arcade game of some kind and couple be quite different than other recent Sega projects. Stay tuned!
This doesn’t really appear to be any sort of camera tracking system as indicated by the mechanics below it. It appears to be a new kind of hand controlling device which arcades have plenty of room to build upon
It appears that it can tilt up and down based on the gear and the toothed piece that is bolted down next to it. If you look closely there is another tooth piece at the front (edge of the picture) that is mounted horizontally so I imagine whatever this is it can swivel left/right. I think you might be right about this possibly be a base for a light gun.
Trackball in the middle? Whatever – i’m loving the suspense.
Maybe a giant “quiz game” of some kind?
