One important component of any video game is the sound mix and the soundtrack. For the new Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade game which Square Enix released in Japan this past November, the company has just offered this peek into the creation of the music for the title, which they did in conjunction with the Abbey Road Studio in London, UK. We don’t often get to see such behind-the-scenes work from arcade development so it is a neat little glimpse:
Also for anyone interested, they are adding a new character to the game: Ramza Beoulve from Final Fantasy Tactics.
Thoughts on Arcade Music
Not every game gets this level of care put into it on the audio portion of course. Flagship titles like Final Fantasy are certain to get a budget set aside for it but that does ask the question: Are there any modern arcade titles that you enjoy listening to? I always find myself coming back to Dariusburst Another Chronicle but with rhythm games like ReRave Plus and NEON FM, I did discover some songs and bands that I like. Beyond that however, it is a little bit of a challenge to think of something that stands out in this regard. What are your thoughts on the state of arcade music these days?
There are lots of good arcade music to go back to. Daytona, ridge racer, the house of the dead 4, but. For me it varies depending what music I’m into at the time but those are my favourite few
