As previously reported by Arcade Heroes a new arcade and sports bar called Rocky’s Big City Games & Sports Bar has opened up in the Western New York area. Today I will take a closer look at the arcade and what they offer. This arcade is located in the former location of Dave & Busters in the Eastern Hills Mall in Williamsville, NY (or Clarence NY) depending on where you are from.
This arcade boasts 120 or more of the latest video, arcade and redemption games. While I didn’t count the number of machines in this arcade I can say this claim is probably accurate. This is a HUGE arcade with many of the latest games in it. This arcade does not feature classic arcade games or pinball, but rather is modern, redemption style arcade. This arcade also has 2 unique attractions in addition to arcade games, Spin Zone bumper cars and Laser Maze. There is also a bowling alley, bar area, a large party room, dining room, a full menu including drinks and food and many projectors and TV’s showing all the latest sporting events. There does not appear to be a cover charge to enter the venue.
Here is my tour of the arcade:
This arcade uses a swipe card system. This seems to be the de-facto standard in arcades these days, no more tokens or quarters unless you are going to an older arcade that has not converted to a card system yet. Each game or attraction costs between 4-16 bits and bits are purchased in increments as shown above. Cards are purchased at automated kiosks. The cost to purchase a new card is $2.
When you first walk in you are greeted by a nice QuadAir Galaxy Collision Air Hockey Table by Barron Games:
Piano Keys redemption game:
Color Match redemption game, a very large redemption game that I haven’t seen anywhere else.
Another game Rocky’s has that no other arcades in Western NY have is Moto GP by Raw Thrills. This is a very nice motorcycle racing game with a full bike that you sit on to control the game.
Spin Zone bumper cars. These are unique bumper cars that spin when your opponent hits a certain spot on the car. I was not able to try these because there was no one else on them, and bumper cars not fun unless you have a crowd of people on them but they look super fun.
Overall Rocky’s is a great arcade and sports bar that offers everything you could want in a friendly and clean environment. I did not see any broken machines, everything was working perfectly. This arcade does not seem as loud as other arcades I have been in, so if you want to go somewhere that is a bit quieter this might be your best choice. The game sounds can be heard perfectly but you can still hear yourself and your friends speak over the sounds of the games which is nice. The machines are spaced out enough where there is plenty of room to walk and breathe in a comfortable environment.
