Ah the first weekend of May. If you’re lucky, that doesn’t mean hayfever; otherwise should mean some good weather so you can go out and visit an arcade. Let’s check out some quick news of what is happening out there:
Stern’s Ghostbusters Limited Edition Pinball In Action: The moment fans have been waiting for came along with week – not anything involving the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot film but footage of the Limited Edition version of Stern’s Ghostbusters pinball machine. Like every Premium/Limited Edition machine, there is a bit more stuff into the game than what the Pro models have. From what I was able to watch, didn’t really see the mangaslings in action but there are 2 hours of footage so I’m sure its there. This was produced by Dead Flip, a podcast dedicated to pinball.
NEON FM Gets A Major Update: Independent game maker Unit-E Technologies has launched a new software patch for their music arcade title NEON FM. It now shows a “Coming Soon” page so players know what new songs are coming up, more language support, drumroll changes and improvements, online bookkeeping and more. They also have ramped up production on the Asian market version of the game as shown here.

TRON Lightcycle Power Run Roller Coaster Footage from Disney Shanghai – There has been a lot of talk about how unique the TRON Legacy themed rollercoaster at the new Shangai Disneyland is turning out – here is a glimpse at it. If I had the money, I’d make my arcade look something similar to this…
Flyer of the Week – Moppet Video: While arcades got most of their start in more adult venues like bars, the explosive market growth in the late 70s meant that people of all ages sought out arcade entertainment. With the height of the Golden Age hitting in 1982, one company sought to cater to the kids by building smaller games. Called Moppet Video, they didn’t just offer smaller cabinets but produced kid-friendly games to accompany them. “Kid-Tainment” type games are still being produced and becoming more popular with releases like Sega’s Let’s Go Safari or UNIS’s kids line of videmption titles.
