Location Watch: Marcade (NJ); Arcade Vintage (Spain); Galaxy Arcade (UT); Pinz #4 (NY) & More

Welcome to another edition of Location Watch. Here, we take a look at all of the new arcade locations that have opened (or will soon open) their doors in recent times. I also will have an article on an upcoming pop-up arcade in London, I’m just waiting for one more piece of information before going with that.

Until then, let’s dive into the new locations out there, with the request that if you find yourself near any of these locations, be sure to stop by and play some games!

Marcade Family Fun Center (Dover, NJ)

For our first showcase, this is a location that opened up back in April, but I didn’t hear about them until now. They are running a mostly traditional retrocade, using the charge for entry, games on free play model. As such they do not have any redemption titles, but they do have a small section of game consoles available to play (which is not too dissimilar from what I did at my arcade when it first opened by operating a PC LAN).

For the arcade machines that you can expect to find on the premises: Amidar, Arkanoid, Asteroids Deluxe, Berzerk, Block Out, Burgertime, Centipede, Defender, Donkey Kong (and DK Jr.),  Double Dragon II, Galaga, Gauntlet, Gauntlet Legends, Gyruss, Joust, Jungle Hunt, Kangaroo, Kung Fu Master, Lethal Enforcers, NBA Jam, Pac-Man & Ms. Pac-Man, Popeye, Qix, Radikal Bikers, Rampage World Tour, Robotron 2084, Sinistar, Spider-man, Spy Hunter, Steel Gunner, Tapper, The Simpsons, Track & Field, TRON, Virtua Fighter, X-Men, Xenophobe, Zoo Keeper and many more. Arcade Vintage (Elda, Spain)

Sticking with the retrocade theme, we head over to eastern Spain to find another classic arcade opening their doors by the name of Arcade Vintage. While they have some original cabinets, they also appear to have created their own cabs (their website says that they are in “generic spanish cabinets) that they’ve put some JAMMA games into. For the game selection, you can find the likes of: After Burner, Altered Beast, Asteroids, Contra, Final Fight, Golden Axe, Gunsmoke, Hammerin Harry, Knights of the Round, Out Run, R-Type, Rygar, Sea Wolf, Space Invaders, a few different editions of Street Fighter (I, II, III, etc.), The Addams Family pinball, The Simpsons, Time Crisis II, Tommy pinball, Vendetta, Willow World Cup Soccer pinball and many more. They also have a Darkula cabinet that we talked about a short time ago on a Newsbytes, showcasing local development talent of Locomalito. Find their main website here.

Galaxy Arcade (Layton, UT)

For an arcade that opened up near me, this one moves away from the retrocade aspect and is focusing on a newer mix. The Galaxy Arcade is located inside of the Layton Hills Mall, bolstering the mall arcade offerings in the state (if you’re new around here, I own a mall arcade in the same state). I was able to get a few pictures from the location as the owner’s brother operates a couple of machines in my space; it takes up 1,800 sq. ft. and features a few new titles such as Halo: Fireteam Raven (Dlx); Let’s Go Jungle; Mach Storm; Typhoon 10th Anniversary; Rabbids Hollywood; Super Bikes 3, some cranes/merchandisers & an air hockey table. I will try and drop by soon, as I do need to do another “tour” of places around me.

Pinz Entertainment #4 (New Hartford, NY)

For a new FEC in upstate New York (perhaps a place for AH writer SaraAB87 to visit), you can now check out the fourth location for Pinz Entertainment. This is the first location for the company outside of Massachusetts, and brings together bowling, food, ping pong, axe throwing, VR, laser tag and of course, a video arcade. Checking out the Twitter feed for this location, some of the games you can expect to find there include: Halo: Fireteam Raven (SDLX); Ice Man; Pirates Hook 4p; Willy Crash, and plenty more on the redemption side. Gateway City Brewery (North Bay, ON, Canada)

This one is mainly focused on brewing craft beer, but in their public tap room area, they’ve joined forces with a route operator to offer a number of pinball machines. Facebook and Instagram (which the company uses to market their brand) are down right now to the point that I cannot find any photos of what that selection includes…but it is pinball! This article also mentions that, but does not get into detail as to what games are there.

The Bonus Round Bar #2 (Sioux Falls, SD)

For a location that is “coming soon,” this company is looking at expanding into a second location. There is no date yet, nor a games list, although it’s a bit smaller than the other locations mentioned here. Either way, if you’re in Sioux Falls, then it sounds like you’ll be able to get your arcade fix there! Read more about it at the Argus Leader.

Bishop Cidercade #2 & #3 (Austin & Houston, TX)

Funny enough, that’s not the only bar/arcade looking to open-up a second (well, and a third) location in the Mid-West US, as Replay Magazine reports that the Bishop Cidercade will also be going for location #2 in Austin, TX and #3 in Houston later this year. These locations are pretty big, looking at 13,000 and 18,000 sq. ft of space, respectively.

Japan Update: Sega Opening Location #5 In Akhihabara

There might be more than that for Japan at the moment, although it’s all I can find for now.
