Arcade Talk – April 2021

I really don’t like to have Newsbytes posts back-to-back, but this week has seen a sudden drought of arcade news. I have been chasing a few stories, but either some things aren’t ready yet or my emails aren’t getting through (I have had some recent problems with my email service, so if you did send something my way recently that never got a reply, please try again as it should be resolved now).

Anyways, I was contacted this week by Joe at Indie Arcade Wave again, and after a delay on my part, we were able to have a chat about indie arcade gaming and my thoughts on certain games. I also offer advice on game testing and spend a bit of time there.

Other than that, consider this post to be an “Open thread”  – feel free to talk about whatever you’d like within the realm of arcades & pinball. Apart from news, is there anything that you’d like to see discussed or shown either here or on the YouTube channel?

Hi, I think it was Adam who did this but I am not sure, but, whoever featured my Facebook post from a while back as part of a newsbites, thank you very very much. As a blind person, I am still loving the arcade scene. A few months ago, I didn’t play anything, but my Dd did get to take me into an open arcade and I got to hear some real machines in person again. It filled me with a lot of joy hearing it all in person. Since then, I’ve been listening to a lot of my arcade recordings that I’ve taken these past couple of years.
I know I never got to part 2 of my post where I was going to discuss one of my other fears in the arcade, I do hope to get to that at some point, this particular fear was an absolute nemesis that literally took me years to conquer and I was so proud of myself once it happened.
Do you have a favourite pinball machine? I absolutely love Scared Stiff because of it’s sound design there seemed to be so much going on with that machine!

Good to hear from you Aaron! I hope you’ve been well. Take your time on part 2 – no rush!

On pinball, that’s a tough one – I’m not particularly good at any of them, but one that I really enjoyed playing was Cactus Canyon. I’ve only come across it once, but still, I was very impressed by what I played, so that one sticks with me. I also do enjoy Stern’s Ghostbusters quite a bit, although I hate how far apart the flippers are 😛 Still, I love the original Ghostbusters so that makes it for me.

I’ve never played a working Scared Stiff, but I would love to try it out one day. The newer Elvira pinball is fun, but didn’t grab me enough to buy one.
