Welcome to the latest edition of Location Watch, the series here on Arcade Heroes that reviews the latest arcade location openings across the world. The last of these came at the end of July, so it has possibly been the longest while between them this time. Still, this gives us a lot to look into.
If any of these places are near you, be sure to do more than just like/follow them on social media – likes don’t pay the bills. That is especially true with several of the locations we’re covering below, where they have a lot of pinball. I sincerely hope that is rendering great earnings for them, because outside of some specific regions/cities, pins are some of the worst earners in the industry. You wouldn’t think that though, thanks to all the hype that’s found for them online and at collector events, but that’s the reality for a majority of locations. Often times the “this game is earning super well” quotes are cherry picked too, and do not translate to every location. I don’t say that to hurt pins or wreck dreams, but to save operators the heartache. If your locale can support it though, then by all means go for it.
H/T to those in our Discord who have provided links and info on these locations, as well as InterGame (Amusements & Attractions) and RePlay Magazine.
North America
Timeline Arcade (Gettysburg, PA)
When it comes to places that are the location of historical battles, it’s easy to forget that people may actually live in these locations. Granted, some can be tourist traps, but any time I’m on vacation, I do hit up any arcades that I come across. Anyways, Timeline Arcade is a retro focused location, although as is often the case when these venues have pinball, they’ll throw in some newer machines. they also have a Big Buck HD Wild and a Tokyo Drift for newer video games, although most of of those digital titles are the classics (including the staples a lot of people look for). They also have some animatronic stuff such as the pirate at the front which is a nice touch.
Gatcha (Manhattan, NY)
This chain of Asian bar arcades centered on New York have opened yet another location in Manhattan. This one is smaller than their recent Ktown flagship, but still tops out at 2.5 floors of cranes, LAN PC setups, rhythm games, and some of the latest deluxe titles out there from Wahlap and UNIS. Here’s another S1ckH4nds tour:
Battle Royale Brewing Co (Springfield, PA)
One of the newest of the bunch here is this bar arcade, which had its soft opening on the 21st this month. With 1,000 sq. ft. though, they don’t have a ton of flex space for the games, so the selection is made up of several pinball machines and a few classic video games (you don’t see Xevious too often in these). Visit their website here.
Electric Hippo Arcade (Springfield, OR)
Over in another Springfield, another new arcade has opened this month, though this one differs from the above in having much more space, and thus many more games. They say “LOTS of pinball” on their website and they aren’t kidding, as you can also see from the photo below. It’s easy to figure out why, as the Pacific North West is a region where pinball outperforms versus most other regions (by the numbers I’ve heard on occasion, pins perform on par with how they do in the Chicago area, sometimes better). If you want to take a little break from the pins though, they also have some video pieces (Mario Kart Arcade GP DX, The House of the Dead 2, Big Buck Hunter Reloaded, Terminator Salvation, and so on) as well as a selection of crane machines. Here’s a local site checking them out; plus A&A’s coverage.

Deep 6 Arcade (Stratford, CT)
This one has been in the works for a while; it was first mentioned by us in the March post of this series, and in total it took just over a year to finally open in September. In addition to food & adult beverage services, they have over 65 games, with most of those being classic video games, along with a solid selection of pins. They even have at least one Electro-Mechanical gun game in there, which is a rare treat to encounter. Local news coverage; A&A’s piece.
Retroware Arcade #2 (Quakertown, PA)
Back over in Pennyslyvania (PA climbing up the arcade location leaderboards this time), we have a second location for Retroware Arcade opening up. While the name implies a strictly retro arcade (and they do have a nice selection of such games), they also have a lot of newer Bemani/rhythm games. Sure, some of those are also “retro” at this point, but there doesn’t appear to be any kind of hard line there. They also have a game store built into one side, in case you’re still one of the few who appreciates physical media.
Small Change Arcade (San Francisco, CA)
Here’s an interesting example of a company that has made mini arcade cabinets (not of the Arcade1Up variety – these are bespoke creations, using retrofitted original hardware), which have now turned to opening their own location. A few of those mini cabs feature there, alongside a selection of full size uprights and pinballs. Jdevy got to visit recently and sent a few photos in our Discord, including this one of the pinball, where Sonic is the star:
Getaway Pinball Arcade (Dublin, CA)
Further East from Small Change is another spot to enjoy pinball with, in fact, per their site, this is only pinball. They also serve drinks, so hopefully they have the locals that love pins enough to sustain a pure pinball model. It also appears to have plenty of space for expansion to add more at some point. A&A also gave them a highlight.
Free Play Pinball Arcade #2 (Livonia, MI)
The theme of the night continues to be pinball, which is why I said what I said at the top; this one is the second location operated by “Wild Dog Arcade”, whom I met and talked with briefly in Chicago for the Fallout reveal. This location has pins that are retro, new, and in-between, while also featuring some retro video games, alley bowlers, darts, and some cool artwork (including an alcove dedicated to Star Wars in one part, which also comes with some life-size props of a Storm Trooper and Darth Vader). A&A covered them too.
Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum (West Bloomfield, MI)
Here we have the new location of a much-loved place that had to shut its doors not too long ago. I would say that this is the most unique location for this edition of LW, as they have an interesting selection of EM games on the side of their FEC style game floor. For the latter, that has a mix of video games, redemption, and a few cranes. Don’t let the “museum” in the name fool you, they have no qualms about brand new stuff, having more of that then retro. They also have one of the only examples of Sega World Drivers Championship that I’ve ever seen out West. There’s more local coverage of them to be found here.
Infinite Horizons Arcade (Tucker, GA)
Here’s a new free play arcade with a cafe and comic book shop attached to it that opened recently in Georgia. They’re leaning into the retro side of their venue with an ad that feels like it’s straight out of the early 90s (it isn’t on YouTube though, just their website). From their Facebook photos, looks like they’ve had a great opening and have been busy:

Satellite Restaurant & Arcade Bar (Marietta, GA)
Last but not least is this new arcade bar that is also in Georgia, where they have new video games (from Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 in a Net City cabinet to Mario Kart Arcade GP DX), along with a few pinball machines, such as South Park and Pokémon. Operated by Starrcade Amusements, it is not a kid-friendly venue. Thanks to Pacsonic for the tip on this one.

Europe
NQ64 + NQ JPN (Soho, England)
The British bar arcade chain NQ64 have been a busy bunch recently; as well as opening their largest location yet in Soho, London (which is still to be eclipsed someday by another planned to have seven floors there…), they have now transformed their original place there to “NQ JPN“, a new concept of theirs that focuses solely on Japanese import cabinets (and of course, themed drinks). The imports range from candy cabinets running classics like Metal Slug and Progear, to Japanese titles largely released during the 2010s, such as Maimai Finale, GunBullet X, Bishi Bashi Channel, and Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Arcade. You can find the full lineup and tour in this video:
Yamato Experience (Nea Erythraia, Greece)
Whilst this recent opening in Greece is Japan-themed, pretty much all of their range of games is standard FEC fare, albeit with some of the most recent releases mixed in. These include Phantom Vanguard, Daytona Championship USA Motion Edition, and interestingly, Flamestone Shot – the US G.I. Joe localization of which is still MIA… so Yamato have likely got the original version direct. Find their website here, and more photos of the place at this post in Arcade International on Facebook.
Budapest Arcade Museum (Budapest, Hungary)
This new arcade museum has been posting a few videos touring themselves in our Facebook group, and who could blame them when they have a collection as good as theirs. The below one starts off in their Sega-heavy “interactive zone”, and includes all three Sega Rally games, Crazy Taxi, Jambo Safari, Ferrari F355 Challenge, and deluxe cabinets for Gunblade NY, Star Wars Trilogy, Virtua Cop 3, and Harley Davidson & L.A Riders, plus a great variety of classic uprights and pinball elsewhere. Look out for the nice flags hanging above them too:

GiGO Roppongi Imoarai-zaka (Tokyo, Japan)
It’s been a struggle again to find many openings in Asia not on the FEC-focused side, but there are some interesting arcade things on the horizon in Japan (see the last couple entries in the ‘Coming Soon’ section below), and one development of note has already happened there too. Roppongi is an area of Tokyo where arcades have found it difficult to stick, but GiGO have tried to change that lately with this interesting attempt at a game bar. They launched it just last week with a special event, which had the unusual sight of seeing former Bemani superstar Kors K perform right near a Dance Dance Revolution cabinet…
