AOU news – Metal Gear Arcade trailer, new VF5 and more

Shaggy February 19, 2010 5

News is starting to pour out of AOU 2010 in Japan and here’s a quick rundown of what we’re getting.

First, Konami has shown a trailer for Metal Gear Arcade, along with new screen shots and close-ups of the unique light-guns employed in the game. They feature several buttons and a thumbstick, you can see the full trailer here(What I posted above has a few things cut out of it). From the trailer it looks pretty intense and it will stand out from other arcade titles by it’s sheer nature, let alone the MG license. I haven’t played the counterpart console game but with the unique interface and the 3D pop-out effect, I’m sure that won’t be an issue for most players to come out and see the game. As a reminder this was announced as a worldwide release but we’ll have to wait and see how Konami will handle distribution of this outside of Japan. If the game is a hit (which will also depend upon the price) I wonder if similar games including first-person shooters could see a comeback of sorts in the arcade (I wouldn’t put it past Activision to think of a Call of Duty arcade, would you?)

Konami also has revealed a new horse racing game called GI-Turf TV. IT looks pretty interesting and it’s a huge setup. You can see more here.

Sega has announced a new version of Virtua Fighter 5R for arcades called Virtua Fighter 5R Final Showdown. They have also released a trailer for the game which you can download here.

The official site for the new Gundam VS. arcade game has also been updated with new information about this game. Of the three games mentioned in this post, I’d say that Gundam is the least likely one you’ll see outside of Japan. You can visit that site here.

Also, AM-Net has pictures of an SD version of Razing Storm, next to Terminator Salvation (which will be released in the summer in Japan). No word on the price difference of Razing Storm standard yet.

Metal Gear looks exciting. Being a popular francise + the 3d pop out will really help it. I hope more games like this will come out in the future.

Yeah, and the one I’d be most interested in, *sob*. (Still, I’m interested in at least checking out the 3D effects on MGS.)

it either will come out or it won’t, I didn’t think silent hill the arcade wouldn’t be released but it did along with mario kart arcade, did castlevania arcade get a world release? I think its quite debatable whether its get released or not although if it prove popular in japan and it cheap enough for operators then it could be release. we’ll just have to wait and see.

No official plans on ANY international releases have been made.

Don’t believe the hype on what will and wont being coming to the international scene (remember Street Fighter) – there is a issue that some sources have vested interests to claim some games will not be sold in the US or UK so they can sell their’s!

Also there is a issue of some consumer news sources wanting to avoid too many questions about arcade and will try and claim no international sales plans for Metal Gear. As some writers claimed this game would never come out and had been shelved – the current news is VERY uncomfortable. Expect rushed write-ups soon 🙂
