I recall that when I was first researching data on my business plan, that I contacted a LAN center in NYC and they freaked out when I mentioned the term arcade. That was because of how the local laws/fees/taxes are handled with such a business and they didn’t want to fall under that category. As such, it is not often that we get stories about new arcades opening their doors in New York City. Today we get an exception with the news that Manhattan is getting it’s very own Barcade. The exact address is 148 West 24 Street in Chelsea, if you find yourself anywhere near there.
According to this article where they have plenty of pictures of the classic selection, the titles that they will have on hand include: Anteater, Asteroids Deluxe, Bubble Bobble, Crazy Climber, Crossbow, Daytona USA, Discs of Tron (Environmental), Donkey Kong, Dragon’s Lair, Empire Strikes Back, Firetruck, Food Fight, Frogger, Galaga, Galaxian, Ghouls N’ Ghosts, Indiana Jones, Joust, Lunar Lander, Mappy, Millipede, Mr. Do!, Ms. Pac-Man, NARC, NBA Jam TE, Night Stalker, Punch-Out!, Pooyan, Q*Bert, Rampage, Return of the Jedi, Slither, Space Harrier, Space Invaders, Star Wars(Atari), Tapper, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Time Traveler, X-Men (6p) and more. I don’t see any pinball in the pictures, which is a little surprising. We wish them the best of luck in business there, hopefully they weather any challenges that spring up just fine.
