Back on Christmas Eve 2013, news came along that Konami was testing out a new arcade sniper game in Japan they were calling GUNDOG. It didn’t take long for this to become known as the revival of the Silent Scope series as they changed the name to (the eyebrow raising) Silent Scope Bone Eater. Check here for some details on the hardware, which include a transparent LCD touchscreen in front of the main screen.
Today Konami has launched a special site for the game, which is releasing within the next week or so in Japan. They also have posted this trailer to Youtube.
I have it on good authority that there is a company looking to localize and import this game to the US, which information I heard while part of a conversation at Amusement Expo. I shouldn’t say who yet since they didn’t indicate that they wanted to be identified with the news yet but they were very serious about finding a way to make it happen. I think many venues would be interested in a new Silent Scope as the game is still found ‘out in the wild’ and it still makes money on location. Yes there are certain places that are not interested in gun games in the US now but there are still enough major venues that are willing to handle a game like this. It’s the perfect kind of game in the sense that you really need an arcade setup to recreate the same feel, it’s not a game that works out too well in a home setting. This one moreso with the transparent LCD hardware.
well god dam konami that trailer really did feel like i was in the 90s again looks like they’ve completely stayed true to its arcade roots , thats brilliant news 🙂 looking forward to boss battles and non cheesy catchphrases i hope :L
I’m guessing with Konami’s status right now that this will never get a US release
