The last weekend of June is already upon us and with that, your collection of arcade and pinball news for the weekend!
Arcade Heroes Podcast #4 – Click the player below for a listen on the latest Arcade Heroes podcast. Thanks to winning some games at auction last Saturday, this week turned out to be incredibly hectic for me so while we recorded this on Wednesday, I haven’t been able to edit it all together until this morning.
Apart from getting into what made this week a little bit of a hectic nightmare, the true highlight is Sean’s interview with Charlie Emery of Spooky Pinball. I really wanted to join in on this but at the time that worked to record, my internet went down at the arcade, we were racing to get the DDR game fixed and I didn’t want to keep everyone waiting so Sean went ahead without me. Charlie details how their upcoming Rob Zombie’s Spookshow International Pinball game came to be as well as some of the features it will enjoy (which as far as I know, hasn’t been talked about anywhere else yet!). If you want an example of boutique pinball working then Spooky is a great example. Thanks to Charlie for taking the time to do this!
KISS Pinball Mini Documentary – Speaking of pinball, Stern put together this video showing the Making of KISS Pinball. While this isn’t the first time Stern has done this, it would be the most detailed among these mini-docs that they have done so far:
PIXELS Movie Build-Up – If you are curious about the upcoming PIXELS movie then Sony Pictures has been creating various featurettes to promote it. This will certainly be the biggest promotion of arcade video games in the pop culture this year, along the lines of Wreck-It Ralph back in 2012. The hype is working to some degree already – I was grocery shopping yesterday and randomly overheard a teenager telling his mom about “Pixels the new arcade movie” that was coming out. This is worth noting some level of ‘spoilers’:
Ghosts ‘N Goblins Arcade For the C64 – I’m not huge on modern arcade ports to old hardware but I’ve got nothing else for this weekend so here you go 😛 A new unofficial arcade port of Capcom’s Ghosts ‘N Goblins Arcade game to the venerable Commodore 64 computer. The C64 had GnG but this purports to be more faithful to the original arcade version.
Name That Game #49 – These are the answers for the last NTG:
