(H/T To Prince Arcades for the video)
The new location hits keep on coming and today’s news is on another bar/arcade concept. Opening just a couple of weeks ago in Peoria, IL, the 8-Bit Beercade has started off with strong success, posting a “big profit” already. That is the success that any entrepreneur dreams of, which pays off best when it is done over the long haul. Like the last bar/arcade venue I posted about, I am not seeing much more than a Facebook page with a little info about what they have going on – they have the games on free play “as long as you are buying drinks”. For some of the titles they have it includes: Arch Rivals, Bags, Burgertime, Centipede, Dig Dug, Double Dragon, Galaxian, Gauntlet Legends, Golden Tee, Lethal Enforcers, Mortal Kombat II and 3 (Ultimate); NBA Jam, Pac-Man, Street Fighter II, The Simpsons, and more. Here is a brief news report about the location from WMBD News:
We wish them the best of luck in business and that they manage beyond the initial opening period – it seems there is a slight uptick in new bar/arcades opening this year whereas the FECs had been grabbing a lot of attention otherwise. One question I still have is – will manufacturers do more to reach out to this potential market of customers with kits or other lower cost games (Golden Tee and Big Buck do well but they are hardly the only ideas which could work for such a market) or will we continue to see the push towards the FEC market with the huge more expensive titles?
