It’s a new month and that means at least one new arcade release. July was a slow month for new arcade titles, but thanks to exA-Arcadia, Breakers Revenge Chicago is now available for anyone to grab.
Breakers Revenge Chicago
Breakers Revenge was originally developed by Visco Games and released for the Neo Geo MVS back in 1998. It fell into the realm of a Street Fighter II style game, but with some additional mechanics like “breaking” that made for a deeper game. While it never enjoyed the same level of cultural recognition as SF, it is a game that hardcore fighting fans have enjoyed.
Now it’s back and ready to be played by a new generation, while pleasing the core fans. Breakers Revenge Chicago maintains the look and feel of the original game, while throwing in some nice extras, such as a super low input lag rate (0.3 frames), the original aspect ratio with artwork on the sides, new arranged music (the original sampled from the Neo Geo CD version is also selectable), a new voice announcer, and new play styles.
Those play styles are described as follows:
- REVENGE – plays exactly the same as BREAKERS REVENGE
- EXTRA! – Deal more damage with advanced techniques like chain combos and instantly recover from hit or guard stun with the Revenge Recovery. Use guard push back to get out of sticky situations and cancel KOs with the Dead Revenge technique.
- CHICAGO – a rebalanced play mode with the ability to now short hop and aggressively go after the opponent

The BRC Kit
In the event that you have an exA-Arcadia system on hand, the game can go into any of those machines, meaning this is not a Japan-only release. In case you are interested in purchasing, there are various exA distributors out there who sell it, such as AVS Companies, Moss, Shaffer, Player One, Red Sun Systems, and Planet Arcades. What comes in a kit though? Here you go:
It’s a typical kit, no Limited Edition versions with more stuff at this point. Interesting to note that the game will also work on a vertical monitor if that’s how you have set things up.
