Hearing of a new arcade or bar/arcade venue opening their doors is not a rarity these days and today we have two new venue stories to share in that regard.
The first is a new location opening up under the official Barcade brand name, Barcade St. Marks. This is located in Manhattan, NY and they have a slew of 80s/90s games to offer to patrons there, with a stronger focus on the 90s for this location. That game roster includes: Art of Fighting, BloodStorm, Centipede, Die Hard, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, two Fatal Fury games, Gyruss, Jungle Hunt, Killer Instinct, KOF 95, Knights of Valour 2, Metal Slug, Moonwalker, Mortal Kombat II, Ms. Pac-Man, Rambo III, Rampage World Tour, Samurai Shodown II, Street Fighter I and III, Strider 2, Tekken 3 and more. They have received some press at The Gothamist and the website for the St. Marks location is here. This location will be open on Thursday Oct. 9th.
Not terribly far away in the Northeastern state of Maine, another bar/arcade venue has been in operation for a month now, located in Portland, ME. That would be the Portland on the Eastern side of the US, not in Western Oregon. Called the Arcadia National Bar, the concept received funding from a successful Kickstarter campaign that sought a modest (for this industry) $25k in funds. Their main website doesn’t show anything more than a logo and a backdrop but looking over their Facebook page I see that they have: Area 51/Maximum Force, Arkanoid, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Moon Patrol, Ms. Pac-Man, NBA Jam, and Q*Bert; possibly more. For pinball they have The Addams Family, The Lord Of the Rings, Apollo 13, Terminator 2, Dracula, World Cup Soccer, and more that I can’t recognize through blurry pics. Either way, they have a solid mix of video and pinball. They also offer table card gaming.
Like with all locations we post, if you find yourself in the area, give either one of these locations a visit. Tell them Arcade Heroes sent you (not that it will get you any discounts but it doesn’t hurt, right?)
