What was the first video arcade game to use a CPU? Seems like it should be a straightforward answer, but the reality is a bit more complicated than that. While bloggers have tackled the subject before, Adam Pratt takes a crack at it, providing insight from an arcade operation, journalistic, and manufacturing point-of-view, providing insight into how arcade games get made and promoted. This also dives into the famous MOA ’75 Expo, where not one, but three video games debuted (four if you count pinball), all using a CPU. Which one made it to market first? Using additional sources that don’t get a lot of play out there, this is one chapter from the upcoming book, The Arcade Age, looks to answer these questions.
This is v2.0, which includes more info than I had previously featured, and has a couple of pages on CPUs and the important CPUs of the ’70s era.
