Challenge Arcade announces "World Record Weekend II" competition this December

Shaggy April 30, 2010 0

If you are a competitive arcade gamer then this announcement should give you plenty of time to prepare for a tournament coming up this December, called World Record Weekend II. The event will be held at the Challenge Arcade in Wyomissing, PA, Dec. 3rd-5th. You might recall that Challenge Arcade was the first arcade location that Stride Gum helped out prior to announcing their Save The Arcades campaign.

Whether any prizes will be given away wasn’t hinted at in the release but you’ll be able to compete on any of the games they have at the store. You can even bring your own arcade machine if you wish (and register properly ahead of time). By registering now to compete on a particular game in their line-up, guarantees that the game will be there for the competition. They also will have more to compete on than just arcade games, with partner Too Many Games bringing home console and handheld systems to the event to compete on as well. For more details, check out the press release below or visit Challenge Arcade’s website.

World Record Weekend – The mid-Atlantic’s premier competitive gaming
event draws top gamers from all over the world for its 2010 annual event.

Wyomissing, Pa - April 27th, 2010 - The mid-Atlantic’s premier arcade
gaming destination, Challenge Arcade (www.challengearcade.com), is
holding its 5th competition where the world’s top competitive gamers
will gather to prove that they have the mettle to declare themselves the
best in the world.

“Challenge Arcade isn’t known just locally for our amazing world record
competitions, but nationally and internationally as well. Gamers from
all over the globe travel to Challenge Arcade to show their amazing
talent, reflexes, and gaming edge.” says arcade owner, Joe Levan.

Gamers from places like Indiana, New Hampshire, Kentucky, New York,
Maryland, Florida, Canada, and the Netherlands have all made the trek to
Pennsylvania’s Challenge Arcade to play classic and modern arcade games
and put their names at the top of the list in the Guinness Book of World
Records and the Twin Galaxies Electronic Scoreboard.

Starting with this year’s World Record Weekend, Challenge Arcade has
partnered up with TooManyGames (www.toomanygames.com), the
mid-Atlantic’s longest-running gaming convention, to begin adding home
console and portable gaming world record attempts to the competition.

Chuck Whitby, founder and executive director of TooManyGames has this to
say, “Joe and I see things on a very similar spectrum. We want to make
sure that all of the world’s top competitive gamers are recognized for
their amazing talent, which is why we’ve teamed up to showcase both
arcade and console gamers at World Record Weekend.”

Kelly Tharp, who had gathered national media attention for his marathon
Q*Bert game at Challenge Arcade, will once again be spending multiple
sleepless days and nights to topple the current world record on the
classic cat & mouse arcade favorite, Mouse Trap. This feat is made all
the more impressive as Kelly lives with multiple sclerosis, a
debilitating degenerative nerve disease.

World Record Weekend has a limited amount of entry slots available for
competitive gamers, so early registration is key for this event. Any
participant who plans to compete on an arcade machine not currently
available in Challenge Arcade’s line-up of equipment is permitted to
bring his or her own arcade machine to the venue for their world record
attempt and verification.

World Record Weekend II will be held December 3rd, 4th, and 5th at
Wyomissing, Pennsylvania’s Challenge Arcade located inside the Berkshire
Mall.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for this event which is sure to
draw much local and national media attention. Those interested in
obtaining a sponsorship packet should contact Joe Levan at 610.401.5700.
