What do you want to see on the Game of the Decade poll?

Shaggy November 22, 2009 16

If you have been reading AH for more than a year then you know that at the end of each year we like to run a poll, asking you what you think deserves to be called the Arcade Game of the Year. We will be doing that for 2009 in just a couple of weeks but reader Andrew reminded me of another poll we should be doing at the same time – a Game of the Decade poll. Since 2010 is just around the corner, it’s only logical to ask which title you think is deserving of the pick from 2000-2009. Since there are many choices to put on that list, I want to present a reasonable list of about 30 games to pick from, or shorter if necessary but instead of me picking them, I want your input. So we’ll just get this out of the way right now – which games do you think should be on the list? Comment below!

(I still am working on uploading IAAPA videos but I have already wasted two hours trying to upload Dead Storm Pirates and the UNIS booth video as Youtube apparently can’t handle MOV files larger than 300 MB.)

That’s OK. You can still fill us in on the best game of all time between ’00-’09 🙂

Yes, on the poll! I was the one who suggested it. Here is a few that should make the cut.

    Marvel vs. Capcom 2
    Soulcalibur II
    After Burner Climax
    OutRun 2
    Time Crisis 3
    Time Crisis 4
    Big Buck Hunter
    Big Buck Safari
    Let’s Go Jungle
The House of the Dead 4
    DDR SuperNova

It’s going to be hard to pick one.

When I look at that list I realize why it is that I don’t spend a lot of time in arcades anymore and it saddens me a little.

thats a tough one. game of the year however would have to be namco’s razing storm (would be brick people but not had chance to play it) and game of the decade I think sega’s primeval hunt due to its new twist on the gun game genre.

how about game of the year and decade in each cataglory e.g. best driver, best gun game, best music etc.. that would be much better

I like the idea of doing it by category.

For the catergories How about this:
    Driver
    Fighting
    Shooter
    Pinball
    Redemption
    Other

      don’t forget

      music
      puzzle
      original
      retro
      shoot em ups
fight scroller e.g. TMNT the simpsons etc..
racers that can include bike, simulators, trucks, atv quad bike etc..
      multiplayer/party join in

My name is not only the game of the decade, it’s the game of the century in my opinion. I will also be Happy if Outrun 2 wins it, but Outrun 2SP took it to another level.

So anything else? I was hoping to get more suggestions by now and we’re going to do this next week.

I could rattle off a few more:

    street fighter 4
    MoCap Boxing
    Police 911
    Ghost Squad
    Tekken 5 /6
Pump it up nx / nx2/ nxa
    In the groove 1 / 2

Even tho the dance games started in the late 90s I think this decade will be remembered most for the dance games.

Good suggestions igo. SFIV is a given and from what I’ve heard about Tekken 6, that should be as well.

An operators perspective: Hands down, the best grossing game for us was the Sega Initial D series, versions 1 through 3. Numbers not seen like that since the days of Daytona, Gauntlet, etc.

Interesting – I have never seen an Initial D in my area but on occasion I’ve had people ask if we would get one in. Makes me wonder about how well 5 will do.

No no, save your money! The Initial D series went down with the introduction of the version 4 cabinet. we had done so well with the previous series that we bought four new cabinets with the version 4. Results were lackluster. The fan base did not like the changes to the mechanics. Version 3 was the last big earner of the series.

Sure, a lot of things changed from Initial D Version 3 to 4. But Initial D 4 is still an upper class racer nonetheless.
