Raw Thrills' releases Terminator Salvation Super Deluxe

Shaggy July 22, 2010 14

The other day I had mentioned in the Twitter feed that there was a new Terminator Salvation cabinet that was being made available for release, a 32″ cabinet with mounted guns. I had no idea that they had this in the works however, a Super Deluxe cabinet somewhat similar to the Big Buck Safari Super Deluxe machine but arguably far more impressive. What I was sent is a rendering but I imagine we’ll be seeing photos of the real thing very soon.

The MSRP on this is quite notable at $17,995.00 – considering that we have seen many games that are much smaller than this go for that same price, RT is certainly making smaller games at that price point look bad. This cabinet is available now and as to where you’ll likely find it, the local amusement park is probably a good place to start.

UPDATE: Found out that it has a 100″ projected screen. With a screen that size I almost wonder why they didn’t add two extra guns to the unit.

That thing is beastly. I really enjoyed the game, even though it was only two levels, so I can’t wait to see this thing in person.

Well, two missions with four stages each. It still can take a little while to get through those depending upon how you play. Still, I wouldn’t mind seeing an extra mission thrown in there along with some extra enemies.

I liked the cabinet and the graphics. My only pet peeve is the game play. I would have liked more variety than just mowing down hordes of enemies. It just seemed too repetitive for me. But then again it is a terminator game so they are limited in what they can do and still be faithful to the franchise. The game is a decent shooter but nothing ground breaking or earth shattering.

This game is Rubbish!!! I would not buy it, Raw thrills have made some very average games so far (BBH excluded) the rest of there games have made me stuff all in the cashbox! Very boring game to play. All the operators I know say the same thing, But saying that the cabinet is bloody awesome looking even the small one looks really really good. Pity the game is just so bad. In 12 months time this will be a cheap game second hand. For high turnover locations only. Better to buy a second hand Time Crisis 4 by far

Well “all the ops I know” say differently. The game has made them a ton of money and most players love it. I have one at my own arcade and it has consistently been the top earning game there by a long shot. Even though it costs more to play, I see more people play it for longer and in pairs, I’ve even seen plenty of strangers walk up when one person is playing and join, which I never seen on any other of my light gun games. Many players audibly state that it is a fun game and they come back and play again. Too each his own but I really don’t see where you are coming from on this as to me seeing players play it again and again doesn’t indicate a boring game. I am not saying it’s a perfect game, there are some further tweaks it could use to be even better but as it is I think calling it rubbish is way off the mark.

Sorry Steve, you are very wide of the mark.

Raw Thrills have released some very strong pieces and T3 is the highest indexing machine across my estate for a few years.

For your info, TC4, although released before the current financial crisis and costing £3000 more per unit, has not been as strong in terms of cashbox returns or reliability.

I agree its nothing new and the fact that rawthrills have been churning out games that have been done before in a way but I love terminator salvation and so do alot of people I see at my nearest arcade. rawthrills to me just gets better and better each year and the only thing I’d like them to do is come up with something of their own thats original, a mascot and above all arcade exclusive.

I must admit though that the game has a few faults that need adressing e.g. when one of the robots shoot and your first person prespective is looking the other way you repeatadly get hurt and theirs nothing you can do because your not facing him to shoot at and so you’re basically unable to continue and its game over. and also you get hit by some attack planes even though you don’t get a red indicator warning which is very annoying

I think all of the manufacturers could improve when it comes to creating characters(except for those that make fighting games). We see that many AAA games out there pull strength from well-written, easily identifiable characters and the arcade industry has lacked new ones for a quite a while. All we have are the same characters that came out of the early 80’s really(again, excepting some fighting titles). There are practically none that are “arcade exclusive” characters. If you look at those involved in Raw Thrills in particular, from Eugene Jarvis down, they have never specialized in character based games really which is why I don’t think they have focused on that. But I agree that it would be good to see them go in that direction. For a mascot game, as long as you can tie a solid character in with a fun game then it’s a sure-fire formula for success.

The real tragedy here is that such an awesome looking cabinet has been for a game based on a horrific flop of a movie sequel.

Haha, bad info Stevie. We have 3 of our arcades with placements of both Time Crisis 4 50″ twins, as well as terminator in the standard cabinet. terminator has blown the doors off the TC 4’s!
Yes, our best shooter in the cash box we have seen since the early collections on Ghost Squad years ago.
We also have routed several of the Rambo 50″ cabinets, and while it’s been okay, no comparison to our terminators.
If you want to talk about a Raw Thrills title we have NOT done well with, it’s Guitar Hero. They did okay in the begining in the highly transient locations. But it has faded, and no wonder how much we rotate them, they struggle. Now with ASCAP fee’s in the works, I can gaurantee these will leave the route soon!

Just curious for those ops with Terminators – do you plan on putting any of them online? So far I’ve only seen three locations on the national leaderboards, my place, Scandia in California and Unit 8 in London. I would have thought that more locations would have put one online with as many as are out there although I know that certain locations simply are not equipped for such a thing but I would have thought that there are more than three out there.

I think earnings are relative to the locations. As I recall Bill (If it’s the same Bill who posted awhile ago) mentioned his twin H2Overdrives weren’t earning well (150 week for both I recall) Well at a location here in California that same game (twins) earn 500-700 a week.

So because it doesn’t earn well in one location one can’t say the game is bad.
