It’s that time again, time for the best Big Buck Hunters from around the world come together and duke it out – in a virtual sense – for top dog status and a bundle of cash. At stake is a top prize of $15,000, up $5000 from the usual along with other cash prizes for lower ranks for more than $50,000 in prize money to be given out during the event. If you’re within driving distance of the Cubby Bear in Chicago then you can go and watch the event as it is open to the public although you won’t be able to compete as that has been decided already. But you can still play Big Buck Hunter as well as some other new Raw Thrills games (they say some of the newest arcade releases so perhaps Dirty Drivin’ will be there too) in addition to watching the tournament unfold. More details can be found on the press release below the fold

With a devoted Big Buck culture that includes actual hunters, trendy city-dwellers and everything in-between, the World Championships have become the highlight of the year for the top Big Buck Hunter players. The Berg brothers of the Twin Cities area dominated the first two Big Buck Hunter World Championships until two new players finally wrestled the titles away in 2010 when Trevor Floren of Lake Villa, IL and Alex DerHohannesian of New York, NY took home the titles in Big Buck Hunter Pro and Safari respectively. The 2010 tournament also featured the first-ever celebrity participants as die-hard Big Buck fan, X-Games veteran and NASCAR driver Travis Pastrana qualified and competed.

Players qualify for the World Championships during a month-long qualification period during the summer. For the first time ever, in 2011, players must play to qualify on Big Buck World games playing both Big Buck Hunter Pro and Big Buck Safari. In order to qualify, players must play on Big Buck World games that are connected to the CoinUp Network, which is an online system that tracks stats online and enables players to compete against other players across the country. Four regions will qualify the top 16 players for a total of 64 players that will qualify to come to Chicago to compete on September 24 in a double-elimination, head-to-head shootout format.
